Introduction Jewish Outreach Congregation has pioneered Jewish Outreach in New York State and other places for over thirty years. JOC was founded in the seventies by two elders of the Monsey Orthodox community, Family Court Judge Bernard Stanger of blessed memory, and Rabbi Emmanuel Weldler, a former Ramapo Supervisor and community leader, with a grant from the Brookdale Foundation. We worked with colleges, singles, Jewish intellectuals, Russians and other projects for many years. In the eighties we published books and made a weekly radio show in New York City. In the waning days of Communism we pioneered the first rabbinical divorce programs for Russian Jews who had never seen a rabbi who could do such things. In the nineties until today we have gone onto the Internet to do what others don't want to do. We have websites working with Nazis to promote better understanding and less anti-Semites. We have a website for Jews with sexual problems. We have a website to handle some controversial Orthodox community issues. Rabbi Eidensohn was featured on ABC television recently in a serious issue, and is regularly quoted in the local newspapers about community matters. At this point, we want to expand our activities, to publish books, improve our internet program, and to make additional audio files, etc. We welcome anyone who cares enough about the work we do, for families, for protection against anti-Semitism, and for general Torah issues, to join us in our efforts.
Our GoalsWe want to teach Torah. We want to teach Torah to Jews who need to learn Torah. We want to teach Torah to those who hate Jews and must learn why they are mistaken to hate us. We want to teach Torah to Orthodox Jews who have problems in their family lives or in general because of mistaken ideas of Torah. We want to change things instead of complaining about them. We can change by educating. Public education must lead to public efforts to effect real change. We must become the Torah that Was as the Torah that Will Be, the title of a book by Rabbi David Eidensohn "stories of Rosh Yeshivas."
